The problem
Twice a week, staff at Real Beams had to print out labels for the parcels to be shipped. However, these labels did not have the order number on them. This meant that they could not tell which parcel was for which label. As a result, they had to look up the names on the labels and write down the order number by hand.
What we built
A small tool that takes the day’s labels (or those from a previous day), and uses data from Interparcel’s API to find the correct order reference number (the Shopify order number) and then stamp it onto an appropriate place on the PDF page for each label.
We also arranged it such that the PDF is in an ascending order based on the reference numbers to make it faster for Real Beams staff to match up the labels to the parcels.
Why it matters
It’s not glamorous, but it gave back multiple hours a week that would have been repetitive, monotonous work and removed a whole category of mistakes.
